Fair Market Valuations:
At Dupuis, we offer written fair market valuations for jewellery on a per item basis. These valuations are commonly required by estate executors for probate or family division, as well as for other purposes. Our fees for these valuations are refundable upon subsequent sale with Dupuis within one year.
Definition of Fair Market Value:
Fair market value is defined as the price at which a willing purchaser will pay a willing seller, both of whom have reasonable knowledge of all the relevant facts and are not under any obligation, within a common marketplace such as an auction. This differs significantly from retail replacement values used for insurance purposes, which reflect the hypothetical retail cost to custom-make or duplicate a jewel during a certain period of time, typically resulting in values that are higher than the current market value.
Auction Estimates:
We provide complimentary auction market estimates for jewellery during initial consultations with our specialists. There is no charge or obligation for this consultation when you visit our office or during regular valuation visits to your city. However, we recommend that you schedule an appointment in advance.
House Visits:
We can arrange special visits to examine jewellery collections at your home, bank, or place of business in any Canadian city if needed. Our minimum fee for this service is $500 plus any direct travel expenses, and it is refundable upon subsequent sale with Dupuis within one year.
Trust and Estate Services:
Our experts provide services for executors, trust officers, accountants, and lawyers for the appraisal and disposition of jewellery collections. We can assist with decisions related to the evaluation and disposal of personal effects of value for estate tax, estate planning, charitable donation, gift tax, and insurance purposes. We can also identify high-value items and offer insured secure storage throughout the valuation process.
Marketing and Sales:
In the event that a sale is considered, we offer pertinent information regarding the marketing and sale of the property. Upon consignment, our staff will assist you every step of the way, including an itemized receipt, shipping arrangements (if required), reporting the prices realized for each lot after the auction, and providing a detailed statement with payment of your proceeds.
