Ron Dupuis qualified as a gemmologist in the 1970s, working within the jewellery appraisal and retail trade. From 1980 to 1986, he served as Director of Sotheby’s Jewellery in Canada.
In 1986, he founded Dupuis Fine Jewellery Auctioneers in Toronto: the only independent Canadian house devoted exclusively to jewels and timepieces. Independence gave him the freedom to broaden the way jewels were presented and marketed.
Today, Dupuis works with families, collectors, executors and advisers across Canada. The business has grown through personal relationships, careful assessment and respect for each client’s circumstances.
Close examination is central to our work. Our specialists assess materials, construction, condition, period and maker, and consider whether a jewel is original, altered or restored.
Those observations inform the estimate, catalogue description, photography and condition report. They allow us to explain our conclusions clearly and present each jewel with confidence.

PRESIDENT
Ron looks first at the overall quality of a jewel: the balance of the design, the workmanship and the way the piece presents as a whole. His decades of gemmological and auction experience give him a practical sense of which qualities endure.
VICE PRESIDENT
Duncan focuses on evidence: the relationship between gem, setting and period, signs of alteration, and details of condition and construction. His background in gemmology, appraisal, research and teaching helps him explain technical observations in clear terms.
SENIOR CATALOGUING SPECIALIST
Christian attends to colour, cut, period, maker and relevant market comparisons. His gem-laboratory and cataloguing experience supports careful identification, grading, description and condition reporting in English and French.
