Lot 165: A Fine Antique Multicoloured Gilt and Enamel Singing Bird Automaton Music Box, by A. Leschot, circa 1860

The rectangular box finely engraved with elaborate yellow, silver and pink gilt scrolling acanthus leaves, winged fairies, floral baskets, garlands and blossoms, the oval hinged lid decorated with a nautical and mountain scene in polychrome enamel, the lid reverse with a white floral motif on a deep blue background, opening to reveal a charming and finely detailed singing bird automaton with iridescent blue, green and red feathers, sliding button on the right corner of the box front activates the birdsong and rotating axis movement of the bird, its bone beak, wings and tail; the interior movement constructed of brass and steel with a bellows composed of animal skin, signed A. Leschot, with key and fitted box
