Castellani, only after Faberge, is arguably the most sought after and collected jeweller of the Nineteenth Century. The house of Castellani started out as a dealer in antiquities, and became renowned for producing jewels influenced by designs, artifacts and methods of the ancient world. The stylized ram's head and the ancient amphora are images from the ancient world that are often encountered in the work of Castellani. This jewel combines these two figures into a single brooch.
Good condition with wear and tarnishing commensurate with age
