Set with an oval emerald weighing approximately 3.00 carats, the frame and shoulders pavé-set with old-cut diamonds, mounted in platinum, signed Cartier, with original box
With report 1087630 dated 20 October 2017 from the American Gemological Laboratories stating that it is the opinion of the Laboratory that the origin of this material would be classified as Classic Colombia. Insignificant clarity enhancement (very rare).
This exceptional emerald ring by Cartier stands out for its design, and is set with an emerald of the finest quality, but its reported history is equally interesting. The ring is offered at Dupuis after passing from mother to daughter for three generations in an important Canadian family.
The ring was purchased in the 1920s when the family was visiting Cartier in Paris. The family story states that while they were at Cartier, they were introduced to Russian Prince Felix Youssoupoff.
The prince was said to have been consigning the ring for re-sale at Cartier. The Youssoupoff family reportedly sustained itself by selling jewels and other assets after arriving in Paris.
Youssoupoff was exiled to Paris from Russia after his involvement in the assassination of Grigori Rasputin, famed mystic and member of the court of Czar Nicholas II.
The Youssoupoff family was known to have acquired jewels at Cartier. The ring is certainly by Cartier, and is a jewel that would not be out of place on the hand of royalty.
Weight: 4.5 grams
Emerald: 12.80 x 9.00 x 4.01 mm, of a medium tone of vivid green colour, lightly included, virtually eye-clean, minor abrasions. This is an emerald of exceptional quality both in colour and in clarity, it would be difficult to find another emerald of equal quality and size. It is most common to find noticeably eye visible inclusions in almost all emeralds, even in the finest quality, this is a very rare emerald due its exceptional clarity. The colour is a pure, rich and vibrant green.
