Lot 69: A Sapphire and Gold Snake Bracelet

Hammer Price
$1,600 CAN

Of ouroboros motif, designed as a snake swallowing its tail, the head set with a cushion-shaped sapphire weighing approximately 4.00 carats, tiny diamond eyes, joined to a highly flexible serpentine bracelet, mounted in 18k and 9k gold, inner circumference 7 1/4 inches

Weight: 24.9 grams
Sapphire: in good condition with only very minor abrasions and tiny nick, measuring 10.8 by 10.0 mm, depth cannot be measured, of a medium light tone of slightly violetish blue colour. It is Dupuis' opinion that there is no evidence of heat treatment, and features found in the sapphire are consistent with features found in sapphires known to have originated in Sri Lanka
Bracelet in poor overall condition, head with noticeable denting, a tear in the gold in the tail that was reinforced with a gold wire soldered along its length, two solder repairs in the mesh
There is no longer a clasp present and the bracelet can be worn by sliding onto the wrist

Condition reports are provided as a courtesy to clients and are a qualified subjective opinion only. All items are sold ‘as is’.
