The rectangular box with slightly rounded corners, engraved throughout with elaborate acanthus leaves, flowers, scenes of nature and a well-dressed couple astride horses, in 18k gold, hallmarked Rawlings & Summers, London, with a Queen Victoria Monarch Mark, with fitted leather box

The exterior engraved: Clan Anderson crest of an oak tree and the motto STAND SURE
The interior engraved: The Gift of Major Genl Riddall to Mr. Anderson. In Testimony of his own esteem and in remembrance of his late beloved Brother Mr. Hans Riddall, who died on the 8th Nov. 1848
The fitted leather box affixed with paper label inscribed: Williams & Clapham late Edmonds Goldsmith & Jewellers Rd 13 & 14 Strand
Gold box in good condition, with normal wear commensurate with age; leather box shows more signs of wear
