Lot 274: An Antique Sapphire, Diamond and Gold Necklace, circa 1840

Hammer Price
Unsold

With a pear-shaped cabochon sapphire weighing approximately 27.00 carats, suspending from an oval cabochon sapphire weighing approximately 9.25 carats, to a pair of cushion-shaped sapphires weighing approximately 6.40 carats, further accented by old mine-cut diamonds, mounted in 18k gold, and joined to a 14k pink gold fancy linking chain, length 20 1/2 inches

Weight: 44.1 grams
Sapphires: a light blue colour, good matching. It is Dupuis' opinion that the sapphires exhibit features that are consistent with features found in sapphires known to have originated in Sri Lanka. There is no evidence of heat treatment.
Diamonds: total estimated weight of 1.60 carats, I-K colour, VS-I1
Good condition, with the two cushion-shaped sapphires with chips and minor abrasions
The chain is a later addition, with Russian assay marks dating 1908-1927 and circa 1910

Condition reports are provided as a courtesy to clients and are a qualified subjective opinion only. All items are sold ‘as is’.
