Lot 327: An Antique Gold Caduceus Hair Ornament, Castellani, circa 1875

Of caduceus design, the duo of entwined serpents coiling upon a reeded pillar and set amid a pair of wings, embellished throughout by highly detailed corded wirework, in 18k gold, with interlaced C's for Castellani

Dimensions: 150 x 40 mm
Weight: 18.2 grams
In good overall condition with minor deficiencies to the applied wirework, soldering needed where the serpents meet the wings (they currently rotate)
Joined to an antique ivory staff that may be subject to international trade regulations
A similar example can be found in the collection of the Cooper-Hewitt Museum, NYC. Shown on pages 131 and 186 of Castellani and Italian Archaeological Jewelry by Soros and Weber, 2004
