Decorated with a pear-shaped cabochon sapphire framed by tiny rose-cut diamonds upon the fluted rose gold ovoid body, 14 mm by 17.5 mm, with initials for Erik August Kollin and 56 standard marks for St. Petersburg
Erik August Kollin (1836-1901) qualified as a Fabergé master in 1868, then became head goldsmith 1870-1886. Kollin worked mostly in gold with matted, hammered or fluted surfaces. Objects by this workmaster are relatively rare. After 1886, he worked independently but continued to produce occasional pieces for Fabergé.
