Lot 659: Two Unusual Acrylic and Sterling Silver Rings, by Lapponia, circa 1970

Hammer Price
$550 CAN

From the Space Silver series, the highly-sculpted asymmetrical designs by Björn Weckström for the Finnish company, Lapponia; one ring, approximate size 8, named "Man in the Cosmos", an example of this ring is in the collection of the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, Netherlands; the second ring is named "Petrified Lake", approximate size 5 3/4; each mounted in silver

Dimensions: 28 mm wide; and 24 mm wide
These are jewels that remind the viewer of the high point of the "Space-Age", fifty years ago, when these rings were made.
The jewels are sculptural, and are built in a way that allows them to be placed on a surface as decorative items, or, of course, worn on a finger.
The shanks are penannular and difficult to definitively determine the shank size due to the sculptural design and setting.
